A hot air duct is a flexible or rigid intake duct that routes air from within the engine bay to the air filter housing or throttle body. Unlike a cold air duct that draws air from outside the engine bay, a hot air duct draws pre-heated underhood air. On OEM intake systems, the hot air duct is part of a thermostatic system that blends warm air from around the exhaust manifold with cooler ambient air to maintain a consistent intake temperature during warm-up, improving cold-start fuel atomization and reducing intake icing in cold climates. In Canadian winter conditions this function is particularly relevant.
