A vapor canister heat shield is a protective cover positioned around or near the evaporative emission control canister to insulate it from radiated heat generated by nearby exhaust components or the engine. The evaporative canister stores fuel vapors from the fuel tank and routes them into the intake system for combustion rather than releasing them into the atmosphere. Excessive heat exposure can damage the canister charcoal bed, degrade the canister housing, and cause evaporative emission fault codes. The heat shield prevents this by maintaining the canister at an acceptable operating temperature.
